Our semester ends on June 18, 2016, and with it, the academic year 2015-16. I also write these words on the first day of Ramadan, so let me take this opportunity to wish all our Moslem students, teachers, parents, sponsors and friends a happy, holy month this year.
CIE exams don't finally end until June 10, which is at the end of this, our penultimate week. Next Monday and Tuesday we have dress rehearsals for Awards Day on Wednesday, June 15, after which all our graduating seniors will be leaving us. Finally, on Saturday, June 18, parents of current junior and 18 month students will be able to meet teachers on Parents' Day. When that is concluded, both the semester and the year are truly over, and the cycle will start again with induction for new juniors on Monday, July 18.
All our junior and senior students now have to endure the long wait for AS and A2 results which normally appear in the second week of August. Only our 18 month students are spared this particular torture until next year, when it will be their turn. If the suspense of waiting for results can be put on hold at least for a while, I hope all our students will enjoy their time away from college. It's a great opportunity to recharge the batteries, whether they are coming back next year, or preparing for university life overseas.
Teachers, too, need time to relax and prepare for the year ahead. Some of us will be going overseas, while others are remaining in Malaysia or staying on campus. Of course, the Bursar and his staff will be very busy during the time when we are officially closed. Refurbishments to student accommodation, preparation for the arrival of new teachers, important college maintenance that can only really get done when the place is empty, all of these things receive high priority at this time.
It just remains for me to wish you all a very pleasant time with your families, and to hope that each student gets the CIE results s/he deserves. For everyone returning to KYUEM, I look forward to welcoming you back here on July 19.
